Communication - No Stinkin Thinkin
Dwell on the Positive!
Philippians 4:8 Finally Brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy -- think about such things.
What do Philippians’ 4:8 and Titus 1:15 mean to you? I would hope that they would point out to you what type of thinking is right. In other words, if we think according to these passages we would be using proper thinking. Too often we do not think this way. Here is another question: When someone says something do you take it in a negative or a positive way? If you think someone has said something that you feel is hurtful, do you ask what the person to explain the statement or do you just get mad? When you self talk, are you using positive self talk or are you telling yourself things like “I am no good”, “I can’t win”, “that person is a looser”, “I hate that person”, “ I hate my job” or are you using positive self talk like Philippians’ 4:8? If you are dwelling on the negative and putting yourself and other people down you are engaged in “Stinkin Thinkin”. This pattern of though is destructive and will make you and those around you miserable.
The Bible has many examples of how we are to think. Paul tells us to take every thought captive. Why? Because if we don’t we often enter into wrong and destructive thought patterns. Don’t corrupt your mind.
If you are experiencing problems in your marriage or relationships, ask yourself "what is my attitude" and “am is using wrong and destructive thinking?” Simply putting Philippians 4:8 into practice will help improve your situation.
